After an intense hike, sometimes all you crave is warm comfort food to fill you up and keep you going. This hearty meal packs in the protein with loads of savory chicken, and keeps it keto with broccoli and cheese in a deliciously creamy sauce. You’ll feel like you're eating a home-cooked casserole out on the trail, and you won't even have to make an appearance at Susan’s annual potluck to get it.
Net Carbs: 6g
freeze-dried white chicken, freeze-dried cheddar cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes, annatto [vegetable color]), heavy cream powder (sweet cream solids), freeze-dried broccoli, salt, paprika
I took my first hike in to primitive camp and of course wanted to carry a light weight food supply to accommodate a couple days. Never being one to count calories it seemed to me that 540 cal would be lacking a little in satisfaction, especially after a day of hiking. I was wrong. The one meal package was filling and held me over to the next mornings breakfast. Which was the Sausage Scramble btw. Easy to prepare, I had added a little more water and let it soak a little longer than suggested as some reviews said they still had some dry spots and it was very good. Added salt to taste, perfect. A little pricy compared to standard/store bought MRE’s but as most things keto/low carb you pay for better ingredients. I will definitely purchase these again for my next trip.
Also got the Sausage Scramble (as mentioned), Italian Beef Marinara (which my daughter thoroughly enjoyed), and the Beef Taco. All products were very good.
The amount of water this one need a to rehydrate is inaccurate on the package. I had to add almost double what is labeled before it was enough. Also, added a little bit of hot sauce because I enjoy more spice.
The Chicken & Broccoli Casserole was excellent. Anything with cheese to me is comfort food and this meal is no exception. Outstanding!
Taste was good although the 6 oz of water per instructions was not enough to rehydrate the meal.
