Help Us Choose Our Next Adventure!

choosing the next keto backpacking food

This year's hiking season is in full swing and we've loved seeing where our customers have been traveling! Even while we're having a blast keeping up with your summer time adventures this year, we can't help but think ahead to what the next few months have in store for us (and you!).

Breakfasts were such a huge hit this spring that we're already brainstorming the next great addition to our healthy hiking line-up. Our test kitchen has been hard at work cooking up our newest menu options.

If you could choose, what would you love to see available on the Next Mile Meals site?

keto backpacking stir fry

Dinner for every adventure

The six meals currently available on the site are the same six freeze-dried meal dinners that fueled us on our Pacific Crest Trail thru hike, but that doesn't mean we should stop there. Some stir-fry recipes? Or maybe something with a bit more Moroccan influence? Or how about a good old-fashioned deconstructed Cheese Burger? Some more paleo backpacking meals?

MOAR Breakfasts!

Two morning meals are great, but more would be better! We've been thinking up some new backcountry recipes to start your mornings right, including a Veggie Frittata, a Greek Omelette, and we've got a few other egg scrambles up our sleeve.

  low carb no'oatmeal

Something entirely different

We've been playing around with some new recipes that are totally different, like fat bombs and keto blocks and low carb no-oat meal; options that are trail tested and camper-approved. Not everyone has the time (or the stove) to rehydrate a meal, so what other meal additions might make your hike or trip a bit easier?

Leave a comment below to share your thoughts and wishes, and you just might see those dreams become reality in time for your next adventure!

I’d like to see a beef stew and a beef or bison chili. Hitting the trail on the 4th, so I’m looking forward to trying then new breakfasts.

Hopefully it’s a noatmeal without almonds! I can’t eat almonds and know quite a few people who also have problems digesting. Otherwise, SO EXCITED for the noatmeal! Maybe a few different flavors like apple cinnamon, mixed berry, coconut/pineapple, chocolate, etc with freeze dried fruits!! I’d love to see some fat bomb type bars for on the go meals/snacks… also a fatty hot chocolate without all the artificial sweeteners!

You guys are magical for bringing such tasty keto/low carb food to backpacking – thank you!!
I think that many keto-ers are also IF as I am so I do not feel such a strong pull for the breakfast foods since I only eat lunch and dinner.
I am a 5’2" woman and pack alone so my struggle is with the volume of the food – it’s just a bit too much! I would love to have the option of purchasing smaller portions so as not to have to stuff myself or pack out heavy hydrated food that I couldn’t finish.

That being said, I do have a sweet tooth and would love to see a dessert option – never do I feel that I have earned it so much as when on the trail! Perhaps a super fatty hot choco (but save our guts and avoid the MCT oil!)? I have seen such things as “astronaut ice cream”, maybe a freeze-dried brownie? Freeze dried blondie? Thank you for considering!

Love the meals. I’m also always on the lookout for good snack options, so take a look at Love Good Fats bars ( Susie’s in Canada ). Whatever you can do to put together a bar or a fat bomb for under three dollars would be amazing. Or any other kind of keto snacks. Keep up the good work!

Breakfast is my favorite! I could eat that 3 meals a day! How about waffle bites with sugar free syrup, low carb granola, fat bombs, and yeah……I agree with Thom, biscuits and gravy!!
